As I concluded our study of men and women in the home and church this past Sunday, I thought you should know that for all of your hard work in raising godly children (maybe only to see them go astray, at least for now) you are not the only one. In fact, for whatever reason, some of the bright luminaries of evangelical Christianity have had, or currently have one or more children who have run their spiritual lives into a ditch and brought grief to their parents. Of course, where we have failed to be a biblical parent we need to repent and ask the forgiveness of our children. However, ultimately our offspring must make up their own mind as to whether or not they will fully embrace the God of their parents.
So visit the link below to read on as Marlena Graves writes about an interview that Christianity Today recently had with Dr. John Piper, who has become a household name among evangelicals. Remember that Billy and Ruth Graham had one daughter who experienced two failed marriages, and their one son, Franklin, became a real profligate rebel long before he became the heir apparent of the BG Evangelistic Association. Even in the best of Christian homes, children can turn out to be Cain, Esau, or Absalom. Many do, however, finally return to the truth of the gospel and scripture. So as my friend Archie Parrish is fond of saying, keep praying and “telling God on them”. God bless you as you faithfully seek to speak the truth in love to your covenant children, whom you love, but the Father loves even more.
