Twice in the Psalms we are told, “The fool says in his heart, “There is no God’” (Psalm 14:1 & 53:1). Both times we are told that those who deny God are corrupt and their actions are wicked. In other words, a godless world-view negatively impacts behavior.
It has been noted that in the 18th century Rationalism eventually lead to the death of the Bible by elevating human reason above the Bible and rejecting the inspiration and authority of the Bible. Rationalists believe that human reason is the highest source of truth, not God.
In the 19th century Darwinism killed God by denying the Creator. The death of God in western culture was a point made by Friedrich Nietzsche in 1882 when he wrote about a madman who lit a lantern in the bright morning hours, ran to the marketplace, and cried incessantly, "I seek God! I seek God! Whither is God . . . I shall tell you. We have killed him - you and I. All of us are murderers . . . God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him . . .”
In the 20th century, Secularism killed values. Subjective “truth” replaced objective truth and values were established by personal feelings. In this system there are no absolutes, no moral right and wrong and no one has the right to preach or authoritatively declare what is right or wrong. Sexual morality is blurred and opinions replace the absolute truth of Scripture.
By the 20th century, with the loss of God’s word, God’s being and the intrinsic value of human beings and objective moral values, the world experienced global chaos and increasing rates of wars, genocides, homicides, suicides, abortions, infanticides, euthanasia, child abuse and pornography. Psalm 14:1 “The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds, there is none who does good.”
President Obama’s recent endorsement of same-sex marriage is a continuation of this destructive pattern. The President said, "At a certain point, I've just concluded that for me personally, it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married."
Please note that the President's endorsement of homosexual marriage is based upon personal opinion, not upon the reality of God or His word.
Pitirim Sorokin, the founder of sociology at Harvard University, noted 1) Weakening of marriage is a first sign of civilizational collapse. 2) Civilization requires men to take responsibility for their offspring and once individuals--especially males--are freed for sexual behavior outside of marriage, civilizational collapse becomes an inevitability. 3) The weakening of marriage--even on heterosexual terms--has already brought a harvest of disaster to mothers and children abandoned in the name of sexual liberation.
Let’s be clear. Marriage is not just an institution of man. It is a God-ordained institution designed for the happiness and well-being of people and for the existence of civilization itself. The Biblical concept of a one man and one woman marriage is necessary for the dignity and survival of any society. The President’s endorsement of homosexual marriage is a rejection of what God has ordained, it is socially and morally destructive and should be enthusiastically and unequivocally rejected.
