“Behold, a king shall reign in righteousness, and princes shall rule in judgment .” Isaiah 32:1 The prophet Isaiah saw his share of kings, some good and some bad. But, this Divinely-inspired prophecy that Isaiah spoke described, not just another king, but THE king. This king is Jesus Christ. He came to earth and spoke these words, “The kingdom of God is at hand! Repent ye, and believe the gospel” (Mark 1:15).
The king of Isaiah’s prophecy reigns in perfect righteousness. He didn’t just start off well in His kingdom only to make blundering and tragic mistakes like some other kings, David and Hezekiah, for example. He doesn’t just have some good points, mixed with imperfections. No, He is and forever will reign in wisdom, righteousness and mercy. He will never be overthrown. He will rule forever.
Is it clear and obvious that He is ruling in your heart today? The question is not if He is strong enough to rule within us, but rather, am I bowing joyfully to His rule? Do my desires, motives, words and attitudes reflect one who is part of Jesus’ Kingdom? May our prayer to Jesus today be, “Reign supreme, and reign alone.”
