“Many, O Lord my God, are they wonderful works which Thou hast done…”

Psalm 40:5

Give God credit! Many are His wonderful works. Certainly this should not be a great surprise to us, considering that He is the Almighty King of everything. Yet, still we should be awed to note the many works of God.

We should remember His many works in the Old Testament, creating the world, parting great bodies of water, feeding His people with manna, giving prophets strength to stand before great opposition, guiding a man like Abraham to trust Him even when the future was far from clear. We should note His New Testament works, the Son of God taking on human flesh, feeding five thousand, casting out devils, healing the sick, eating with sinners, redeeming His people, and rising again. We should His work in the early days of the church, the outpouring of the Spirit at Pentecost, the spread of the gospel throughout the known world, the unity of the church in being made up of Jew, Gentile, rich, poor, slave and free.

Remember His work in your life. If we are believers in Christ, we are all miracle works of God. Ponder how that He has taught you, guided you, purified you, grown you and had mercy on you. Think how He has provided for you, delivered for you, answered your prayers.

Let us remember today and praise God for His many wonderful works. The rest of the verse says they are actually more than can be numbered! While praising Him, let us petition Him to continue to perform fresh wonderful works, which are so needful in our time.
