We live in a day where to have or wear a cross is a very popular thing. Some people collect stamps, sports memorabilia, knick-knacks, antique cars, and many other things. Recently someone told me that he had a friend whose wife collected crosses. That’s right! She had all types, shapes, designs, and material of crosses hanging on her walls. When Paul says, God forbid that I should glory, save (except) in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, he is not speaking of the actual cross on which our Lord hung, or a man-made replica that sinful men and women have made collectible trophies. If you could actually find the piece of wood that our Saviour hung on, it would be of no spiritual value. It is in the Christ of the cross that sinners are saved. Salvation is in a person, and that person is Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God, who laid down His life for His people, dying as a notorious criminal on a cross.
