Lying at the feet of Christ was an adulteress woman. She had been caught in the very act of her sin and brought to the master to judge. The Law of Moses was very plain as to her judgment. Her guilt was established beyond question. Those who brought her wanted her to die. Her husband, no doubt, wanted her to die and the holy law of God was in their favor. This is where God brings the sinner to show his mercy. He uncovers his sin and reveals what he really is. He is brought to the place where he has nothing to plead. He has nothing to say because he is guilty.

There in his certainty of doom his accusers all vanish away. Why? Because the blood of Jesus Christ, God’s dear Son, cleanseth us from all sin. “Who shall lay anything to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.” (Romans 8: 33-34) “Woman! Where are those thine accusers? Hath no man condemned thee? No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, neither do I condemn thee: go and sin no more.” (John 8: 10-11) Not man, or devil or even the Holy Law of God can find a flaw in the righteous redemption of God’s elect.
