Hopeful was driven to the point where he knew he had no option but to go to Jesus. But when he went, he prayed and prayed, but nothing happened. He couldn't understand it. His worst fears seemed to have materialised. Yet at the same time, he feared ceasing to pray and plead with God because he was too fearful to leave the throne of Grace! How could he dare die anywhere else?

How beautifully John Bunyan has presented this issue. A man or woman comes under heavy conviction of sin. They understand that their salvation rests in the hand of God. There is nothing they can do to make Him give it to them. Yet as much as they pray, they don't seem to receive it. They feel that God has not effected the transaction.
