For My Brethren Who Are Near
When the children of Israel came to the edge of Canaan they
found giants which would have to be overcome before they entered.
So it is now with many of you, my brethren, who are near the
eternal land of our Lord's promise. A body failing, disease
which has taken its toll, and the thought of death, may stand as
tall as giants.
Yet, the same God of grace that delivered you in the beginning
by his gracious call, the same God who has delivered you through
every trial as you passed through this wilderness, is the same God
who shall now deliver you by his grace. So it was with Caleb who
said, "The Lord is with us, fear them not."
Oh, the thought! Just as we closed our eyes Friday night,
December 31 to awake Saturday morning to this new year, so shall
you close your eyes in this world of sorrow and open them in glory
to all things made new by Christ our Lord!
My dear brethren--my fathers and mothers in the bond of
Christ--read Revelation 21: 1-7 and think on these things! It is
not you that are passing away, but the sin and sorrow of this world
that is passing away from you.
All things made new for you by the Lord Jesus Christ--yes, the
never-ending year of jubilee--is almost here! Our faithful Savior
has overcome, it is by his faithfulness that you shall. May the
Lord comfort you with his precious promise--"He that
overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he
shall be my son."
