The Slothful Man Does Not Roast What He Took In Hunting

The slothful man does not roast what he took in hunting, But diligence is man’s precious possession (Proverb 12:27).

The slothful man does not roast what he took in hunting, – Here is the man in danger of starving because he does not complete what he commenced. He has found that for which he sought, but is too indolent to take the final step required before he can partake of it. We may find such a man in the spiritual realm. He hunts for Christ until he finds his quest, but will not feast on him because he is too lazy to believe in Him. Such was Agrippa, King of the Jews and the self-professed “Almost a Christian” (Acts ch.26). He sought the coming Christ of which the prophets had prophesied (v.27). He found the Christ he sought through the preaching of a gospel minister (vv.22f). But he was too lazy to exercise saving faith in the Christ he had sought and found, saying to the gospel preacher, “You almost persuade me to become a Christian” (v.28). He therefore could not feed on Christ, and would starve to death because of his slothfulness.

But diligence is man’s precious possession. – He who possesses diligence possesses a most precious commodity. He will diligently seek Christ until he finds Him (Isaiah 55:6), and diligently believe on Christ will all his heart (Acts 8:37), and consequently be blessed to feast on Christ for all eternity.
