People who do not have a solid hope for the future become slaves to today. Why would anyone become a slave to their stomach? Because they eat every meal like it is their last.
In the 80’s the president tried to get people to stop using drugs by running the “Just say no” campaign. Alongside this easy to repeat motto, they bombarded teenagers with all of the bad things that would happen if you took drugs. The program failed.
We may all look different, but we have this capacity in us that will turn to something to make us feel better. One person may turn to exercise, another may reach for a drink. One person may be addicted to having her friends compliment how she looks, another may be addicted to the feeling of having a full belly. But we all turn to something for that security blanket.
If you are doing something to make you forget how bad life is, then finding out more bad news only makes you want to feel better even more. Before we can be free, we need to know there is something better, there is hope.
