"Therefore we are buried with Him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life." (Romans 6:4) _________________________________________________________________
I PRAISE THE LORD TUNE TO LOVE LIFTED ME WORDS BY PASTOR JIM BYRD
1. I was lost without a hope, helpless and dead in sin, Separated from the Lord, guilty and vile within; But the Lord in sovereign grace, purposed to save my soul; Sent His Son to pay my debt and make me whole. CHORUS: I praise the Lord, I praise the Lord, For sending Christ to die, I praise the Lord. I praise the Lord, I praise the Lord, For sending Christ to die, I praise the Lord.
2. Jesus came to save the lost, God’s sacrifice was He, He redeemed me by His blood, poured out on Calvary; What a wondrous Substitute, justice is satisfied, Who can bring a charge against me, Christ has died! CHORUS
3. I will magnify my Lord, worthy of praise is He, May His Name be glorified throughout eternity; If you love Him lift your voice, loudly His praises sing, Praise the One who saved you, Jesus Christ the King. CHORUS _________________________________________________________________
"NOW ARE WE THE SONS OF GOD." (1 John 3:2) When may it be said of the Lord’s people, "now are we the sons of God?" At all times and under all circumstances; in trials, in difficulties, in disappointments, in losses, in crosses, in adversities, in temptations, in persecutions, "now are we the sons of God." Nothing can alter this love. "Though we believe not, He abideth faithful; He cannot deny Himself." Were He to deny the objects of His love, He would deny Himself; for they are one with Him, "bone of His bone and flesh and His flesh." "Now are we the sons of God." It was "now" when the apostle wrote his epistle, it was "now" in eternity past, and it will be "now" in eternity to come. –From a sermon by William Gadsby, preached September 19, 1827 _________________________________________________________________
"WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED?" Acts 16:30 "What must I do to be saved?" That was the cry of the convicted jailor. Take heed to the reply of God’s servants. "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house" (verse 31).
"Believe" - To believe is to cling to, rely upon, submit to the claims of and rest entirely upon the Lord Jesus Christ. Faith in Him is a gift of the Holy Spirit whereby the regenerated sinner is enabled to look solely to the Savior for righteousness, forgiveness, salvation, acceptance with a holy God and everlasting life.
"Lord." The One we believe is Himself the Son of God, the Lord of glory. We don’t make Him Lord by believing on Him; rather, we humble ourselves before Him, delightfully acknowledging His absolute authority and bowing to the scepter of His righteousness. He who is the only Savior of sinners is the Ruler of all things in creation, providence and grace. Christ was the Lord eternally because He is the second person of the Godhead, but when He joined His deity to humanity, the Son of Man earned Lordship by successfully accomplishing redemption. As a reward for His triumphant work, the Father raised Him from the dead, exalted Him and gave Him universal sovereignty. "God has made that same Jesus, whom ye crucified, both Lord and Christ" (Acts 2:36).
"Jesus." He is Jehovah who saves. He came to "save His people from their sins" (Matthew 1:21). Our sins were imputed to Him and He died, "the Just for the unjust, to bring us to God" (1 Peter 3:18). Certainly God loved His chosen ones with an everlasting love and purposed to save them all, but He would not and could not save anyone in a manner contrary to His holy character. It was because God loved us that He sent His Son, who died in our stead, so that justice would be satisfied (John 3:16).
"Christ." He is the sent One, the Messiah, commissioned by the Father and anointed by the Holy Spirit to put an end to the sins of His people and bring in everlasting righteousness by His "obedience unto death."
"And thou shalt be saved." Everyone who believes Him is assured of salvation from sin and all of its horrible effects and consequences. The trusting sinner is saved with an everlasting salvation.
"And thy house." Paul and Silas were simply saying, if others in your household believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, salvation is theirs as well.
"And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house" (verse 32). These two preachers declared the gospel to the jailor and his household. What was the result? All who believed "the word of the Lord" confessed their faith in Christ by submitting to baptism and rejoiced in the Lord (verses 33-34). _________________________________________________________________
