"Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and ye perish from the way, when His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in Him." (Psalm 2:12) ________________________________________________________________________
The Surety In the covenant of grace, the Son of God voluntarily became Surety for all the people entrusted to Him by the Father, thereby becoming legally accountable for their spiritual indebtedness and fully responsible for their salvation. In that council of peace, He agreed to satisfy all the requirements of divine justice in order to righteously deliver them from their sins. The Father looked to Christ for the saving of sinners, and the One to Whom the Father looks, is the One to Whom we look. "Behold the Lamb of God" (John 1:29). ________________________________________________________________________
In His Hand "Yea, He loved the people; all His saints are in Thy hand: and they sat down at Thy feet; every one shall receive of Thy words" (Deuteronomy 33:3). Though by nature all the saints of God differ in many ways, by grace we are the same. All are equally chosen to salvation, redeemed by blood, called by the Spirit, dear to the Lord and partakers of what Jude called, "the common salvation" (verse 3). We are children of the same family, debtors to the same grace, bought with the same price and kept by the same power. We all worship God the same way, through Jesus Christ alone Who will keep us eternally secure. We are safe in His hand.
1. We are in His fashioning hand. We are the clay and He is the Potter Who had made us into vessels of mercy, for His Name’s sake. "This people have I formed for Myself; they shall shew forth My praise" (Isaiah 43:21). "But now, O LORD, Thou art our Father; we are the clay, and Thou our Potter; and we all are the work of Thy hand" (Isaiah 64:8).
2. We are redeemed by His strong hand. "Now these are Thy servants and Thy people, whom Thou hast redeemed by Thy great power, and by Thy strong hand" (Nehemiah 1:10). The hands of our Savior were stretched out in death to redeem His people that God might be "a just God and a Saviour" (Isaiah 45:21).
3. We are in His trying hand. Job, reflecting upon all of His afflictions said, "Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the LORD hath wrought this?" (Job 12:9). "What? Shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil"? In all this Job sinned not with his lips" (Job 2:10). "Have pity upon me, have pity upon me, O ye my friends; for the hand of God hath touched me" (Job 19:21). "My times are in Thy hand" (Psalm 31:15).
4. We are in His keeping hand. "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give them eternal life; and they shall never neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand. My Father, which gave them Me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of My Father’s hand" (John 10:27-29). " I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of My righteousness" (Isaiah 41:10).
5. We are in His directing hand . "If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; even there shall Thy hand lead me, and Thy right hand shall hold me" (Psalm 139:9-10). Isaiah 42:16, "And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them" (Isaiah 42:16).
6. We are in His glorifying hand. "Thou shalt also be a crown of glory in the hand of the LORD, and a royal diadem in the hand of thy God" (Isaiah 62:3). How comforting to know that all of the Lord’s people and all things that pertain to us, are in the hand of our Lord. "For all this I considered in my heart even to declare all this, that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God: no man knoweth either love or hatred by all that is before them" (Ecclesiastes 9:1).
