“And He (God) said; take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah (place where God sees and where you see God) and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.” Genesis 22: 2As a representative of all true believers perhaps it was for us to understand that the sacrifice of Christ was a real sacrifice. This was not just God going through the motions, or some unemotional act, this was a loving father sacrificing his only begotten Son. This was a real sacrificial heart-wrenching deed. I do not pretend to be able to know what God felt in this sacrifice, but I do know this – what ever he saw was enough to satisfy all that perfect Justice and Wrath required. In Isaiah 53: 11 it says, “He shall see of the travail of his soul and shall be satisfied.”
The faith that is able to enter into his sufferings is a faith that will pass through the trial. Because of the satisfaction of his sufferings Isaac would be spared and all those whom Isaac represents. Oh, never let this heart forget that it is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God.” (Romans 8: 34) All real trials shut us up to Christ and it is there where all true faith is separated from the dross.
