Psalm 1:1:1 Blessed is the man [1] who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
Proverbs 1:22 “How long, O simple ones, will you love being simple? How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing and fools hate knowledge?
The Bible describes the mocker as the highest level of fool. Once a sinner begins sitting in the seat of the scoffer, nothing more can really be said. He does not want to debate, because he already knows everything. Therefore, to try and dispute with him only makes him wiser in his own eyes.
The feminist Naomi Wolf describes the cynic as someone so afraid to get their hopes up and believe something passionately, that they choose to laugh at any serious religious question. Like adolescents afraid to have a serious conversation, because if they reveal that they believe in God they will no longer get asked to sit with the cool kids, and have to sit with the nice kids.
So what does the cynic do? He latches on to one argument, and refuses to debate it. He just laughs at any who would disagree.
Religion is just a bunch of rules created by the powerful to control the poor.
Christianity rejects evolution, and everyone knows that is law.
MORE OF THESE cynicism is self protection
If you are taking the path of the cynic, too smart to believe anything, then let me ask you to do one thing. Would you please, for just one moment, be cynical about your cynicism. Instead of questioning everyone else, question yourself – is it possible that your cynical attitude simply betrays your fear of caring about anything?
