Prayer 6.6.2010

Our Father in heaven, before we ask for ourselves this morning, we first ask for Thee. We pray that Thy Name be hallowed. We pray that we may not in any way tarnish the Name of Christ. Where we have failed - and we have - forgive us of our sins.

We pray that Thy Kingdom come and Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Lord, may the day come when we see Your righteousness cover the earth as the waters cover the sea. Lift our eyes above what men see on earth. Help us to see through the fog of doubt and despair. As soon as the dark days come upon us, the light of God is ready to rise on the horizon. Why should we despair? The failure of men and nations will only give us opportunity to proclaim the law of grace and the grace of law to a people in bondage.

Lord, help us to recover from the divisions and problems that are always present in Thy Church. History is the record of the difficult path that the Church has trod. Through many trials and tribulations we have come. Lord, there is a need for cleansing. There is a purpose in all things. Yet, Lord, so many people have been hurt. Fellowship has been broken. Friends have become enemies. Men part ways never to see one another again. Lord, it hurts. It hurts to see a friend leave. It hurts to lose friends. Heal our hurt and cure our illness of spirit.

Lord, let us never give up. We are called to endure as long as we are on this earth. We must persevere. We must hand off to a new generation the faith that was handed to us. Lord, we have fought in many battles. We have fought because we knew we had the pearl of great price in the Lord Jesus Christ. We came to understand that He is a King, a Sovereign, a ruler of the nations. We were humbled. We were full of enthusiasm. We were in a great battle for the truth. We were even willing to lose all for Christ. Lord, may the next generation discover the wonder of His grace and the merit of his worth. Lord, may we leave the house of God in better condition than it was when our fathers delivered it to us. Lord, the next generation has a great challenge before them. The old truths have been lost and they will have to teach them all over again beginning from the basics. Raise up faithful men who will meet this challenge.

Lord, as we pray for Thy honor, for Thy kingdom, and for the future of Thy Church, forget not that we are but made of dust and susceptible to the diseases and plagues of this world. We are not free from sickness and death. It is easy to get depressed. It is easy to give up. Lord, lift up the weak, comfort the downtrodden, and give strength to the hurting.

Our Father, we pray for our daily bread. In times when men have ignored Thy laws and seek to create paradise on earth by their own efforts, we live with some anxiety. The money gods create money out of nothing. The state has become our security from the cradle to the grave. Immorality runs rampant in the media. The family is under attack. We kill our babies in the womb. We raise our children in a cesspool of humanism. Yet, our leaders still pray to God as if God owes them something. Lord, all You owe them is judgment and destruction because they have gone their own way and denied the heritage that was given to them from our fathers.

Yet, Lord, we see Thy mercies every day. We ought to be dead, but we are still alive. We ought to be poor but we are still rich. We ought to be empty but we are still full. Lord, Thy mercy falls both on the just and the unjust. You have treated those who hate You with kindness. May the kindness of God lead them to repentance and faith. May the kindness of god lead us to worship you with intensity and vigor. May our singing reach the ears of the Lord of the Sabboth. May the prayers of God’s people find its way to You as a sweet smelling aroma. May the word of God come forth among us like the thunder in a great storm. May this Church become like unto an army marching as to war.

Lord, we come to worship the Triune God. We come to the Father through Jesus Christ our Lord. We hold high the work of Christ as the sufficient atonement to pay for all of our sins. We have become in our judicial standing before the Father as white as snow. Send Thy Holy Spirit to protect us and guide us on a weary road. Help us by Thy Spirit to see Jesus more and more, and help us to love and trust Thee O Father, even as Jesus did. Who is worthy of our worship? Not men, who waver and who are capable of lies and deception. No, only Thee O Lord, art worthy of our worship. Help us to worship Thee aright today. In Christ’s Name we pray. Amen.
