If you DECLARE the gospel and don't LIVE IT - you will confuse people.
If you LIVE the gospel and don't DECLARE IT - you will condemn people.

-------------------

Where He Is

It was a tired and discouraged group of disciples who had fished all night and caught nothing when the day started to break and they saw Jesus standing on the shore.

"So when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put his outer garment on (for he was stripped for work), and threw himself into the sea." (John 21:7)

Why did he do this???

One reason only...he wanted to be where Jesus was. What else would compel someone to put his clothes on and jump out of a boat and swim 100 yards to get to land?

At first take it is easy to say how ridiculous this may have appeared. But when I look at it from a "heart perspective" I see something completely different. All Peter knew in that instant was that Jesus was 100 yards away standing on the beach...and he wasn't. So in a moment of complete abandonment he disregarded everything just to get to his Lord.

That has always been one of my favorite scenes in the Bible because it demonstrates in a dramatic way a heart that longs for Jesus. In this regard I want a heart just like Peter's, in that, "I just want to be where Jesus is."

We all know what it's like to desire something so much that we think about nothing else. At those times we are so consumed that nothing else seems to matter.

Instead, that is how intense our devotion to Christ should be. When we are completely devoted to Him like this, nothing else in the world matters. It's just like the song says...

Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace

When we live the gospel, in a sense we have abandoned the world because we know that nothing else matters.

When we declare the gospel it should be evident that we are...

"...looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus," (Titus 2:13)
