His point was that "the natural mind cannot receive the things of the Spirit of God." Your brain is not the judge of what God is doing, God is. Just because you cannot figure it out doesn't mean that it should not be happening.

On the other hand - and there is an other hand - the Scriptures are clear to us that we must "test all things." It's OK to be a little stubborn about an innovation that does not seem to have the approval of Scripture on it. There's something good about wanting your church and your home and your life to be free of contamination. But always with the understanding that the carnal mind is enmity with God.

We've got to be open. What if the Spirit of God is involved in what is happening? What if it's another "Peter" moment, where what is in the past won't work now? Like when Peter was asked to kill and eat unclean animals in a dream. His religious mind loathed the idea, and had to be convinced of the Spirit that God was indeed waving Him through the stop sign.

"Test all things, hold fast to that which is good." For sure. But working with a spiritual mind and the Spirit Himself. "Whatsoever things are pure... think on these things." Oh yes, but being sure that your whatsoevers are His. "Be not children in understanding." Grow up. Be strong, but be ready to hear from God.

"If anyone is ignorant, let him be ignorant." And don't let it be you. Ignorance is pretty expensive.

"Come now and let us reason together." And let's start our discussion with Me, the Lord of the Church, and what I want and what I need. You have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars. Good. Keep it up. But don't forget God's surprises along the way.

This is a generation of the itching ear. But it's also a time when revival is in the air. And in huge portions of the church. Do we always know the difference between a genuine seeker, and an ear-scratcher?
