Separated to God There were many times in the life of Israel in the Old Testament that God’s people would serve other gods along with the Lord. The Lord God made it clear to them, however, that this was wrong. They were to worship Him alone. Worshipping and serving the Lord only is the right thing to do because He is our Maker and He provides for every need we have. It only makes sense to honor Him with every aspect of our lives. God had brought His people out of the nations and set them as a separate nation so that they would be His holy possession. They were not to be intermingling with other gods or nations. Now, however, God’s people are spread throughout the nations of the world but still have an obligation to be separated to Him. It is as His holy possession that we are most useful for the work He has given us to do. So we ought to be separated to Him. That doesn’t mean that we flee from society but that we live in full dependence on Christ and in submission to His will.
