This is always the case when men and women assemble themselves together and hear the gospel of Christ. Some will acknowledge him and embrace him seeing his goodness and grace: Others will despise him and call his gospel a clever deception of men. How can a person determine the difference? How can a sincere seeker of God tell what is of God and what is not? How can a lost man know the truth? The Lord gives us the answer in John 7: 17, “If any man will do his will, he he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.”

In no less than 7 different versions of the bible this verse reads, “If anyone is willing to do his will, he shall know about the teaching whether it is from God or originates with me.” What is required to tell the difference is a heart that truly wants to know. The believer is one who has been made willing in the day of the Lord’s power. (Psalms 110:3) He is willing to submit himself under the will of God. He is willing for God’s will to prevail over his own. He rejoices in the immutability of God’s will. He prays not my will but thy will be done. The believer is a person who has discovered his own weakness and inability and sees now the foolishness of any religion that appeals to man.
