Sovereign Grace Baptist Church Meets weekly at 907 Hillsboro Boulevard, Manchester, TN, 37355. Currently, our church is without a pastor/elder and the members meet weekly for praise and worship in hymn, prayer, reading of Scripture, study of the word, and fellowship.
A friendly reminder was all I needed. I called a buddy who had recently been forced to terminate his position as senior pastor of a church to see how he was holding out. Instead of me helping him, however, he was the one who blessed me. In our conversation we shared some of our struggles and laid bare some expectations for days ahead. At the end I was bemoaning the fact that I am in a small setting with little financial renumeration. My friend reminded me of a book about a pastor who faithfully preached to twenty-five persons weekly. His ministry has been rehearsed in Don Carson’s book about his father. My friends parting words were, “the book extols the significance of pastoral ministry no matter how many people you preach to.” This was a tonic to my soul, and a deep strike at my evil and ungrateful heart. Challenged by divine conviction, I repent. I repent of my envy, I repent of my greed, I repent of my pride and mostly for my lack of trust in God. What a wake up call this was. And it was a call that I made. You never know when God is going to speak. For me, today it was from an out of work pastor!
