This is exactly what is meant by the promise of Zechariah 2:8. “..for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of His eye”.

Several times when I was growing up and in the early grades, someone older would try to mess with me and my ‘older brother’ would come to my protection and rescue. How safe I felt, how much peace this afforded me during those anxious situations.

Now brethren; we have an Elder brother who loves us and cherishes us much more than any earthly brother or friend. We have the very Lord of Glory which has told us that we are the ‘apple of His eye’; that is; He knows us, thinks upon us, is taken up with our care, our help, our aid, our everything necessary to one day see Him face to face in Immanuel’s land. So, let not you heart be troubled, be not anxious about tomorrow, be not discouraged long; for He is your protector, the lover of your soul, your very present hiding place in a dark and weary land. I wish I could really convey what this phrase means to each and every lamb of His fold. I suppose you and I should do what we are to always do . . . read the passage over and over again, think about it, and let it saturate your soul, asking for much grace from the Author so it would one day soon taste sweeter than the honeycomb and enliven our daily walk with Him whom our soul loveth.
