We had a great May full of activities including a Mother-Daughter Banquet, Mothers’ Day Service, Armed Forces service on Memorial Day Sunday, Home School graduation exercises, and hearing from our missionary to Saskatchewan, Skip Wilson.
But June is not to be outdone by May. Sunday, June 7th, we have a baptismal service and meet our Summer Intern, Dustin Speckhals, and his new bride, Andrea. Sunday, June 14 at 6:30 pm, Dr. Roger Voegtlin from Fairhaven Baptist Church in Chesterton IN will kick-off our 50th Anniversary celebration services. Saturday, June 20th is our annual church picnic. Sunday, June 21st, our 50th Anniversary celebration continues with a favorite at Mt. Zion, Evangelist J. Bennett Collins, preaching all day.
The culmination of our 50th Anniversary celebration will be Sunday, June 28th when Dr. Roy Wise, former pastor of Mt. Zion for 16 years and current pastor in Mt. Laurel NJ) will preach in the morning service. After lunch in the Annex, we will complete the celebration with an afternoon service with a look to the future at Mt. Zion.
As if that isn’t climactic enough, the next day, our summer youth camp begins when 10 churches and 112 campers converge on Hanover PA for a week of preaching and activities. The preacher at the youth camp will be author, Pastor Jerry Ross from Jasonville, Indiana while the junior camp speaker will be Pastor Gary Zdzarski from Payson, Illinois.
In a day when churches nationwide are in a state of flux, giving-in to new philosophy’s of purpose-driven ministry and changing doctrines, Mt. Zion Baptist Church stands and faces the wind to remain the way we have always been—“Church, the way it used to be.” We stress solid Bible preaching and teaching, emphasize individual and family living for Christ, focus on reaching out to our community and the world with the Gospel, and try to guard against the influx of worldliness into the church. If you are looking for this kind of church, do something about it. Serving Christ can be fresh and exciting again. Come and worship with us this Sunday.
