As I began to think about the first eleven verses of John 2, the thought of another miracle concerning water came to mind. It was Moses turning the river into blood. I began to compare the two and this is what I saw:
1. The first miracle of Moses was a curse on the land. The first miracle of Christ was a blessing on a marriage.
2. The first miracle of Moses caused the water to be undrinkable. The first miracle of Christ made it more desirable
3. The turning of the river into blood caused Pharaoh to harden his heart. The turning of the water into wine caused the governors heart to rejoice.
4. The bloody water of the Nile caused those who saw it to desire Moses to leave. But the new wine of Christ caused the governor of the feast to send for the bridegroom.
5. The bloody curse of the waters of Egypt was give to force Egypt to let go of God’s elect. The new wine of Christ was given to God’s elect to make them willing to leave.
