The Lord Jesus is preparing his disciples for what they will suffer. Just as religious men and women crucified the Lord calling on the name of Jehovah so he says men will do the same to you thinking they are doing service to God. Sorrow filled their heart because he told them: they would be despised and rejected of men, they would be put out of their synagogues, some would even be killed. And they were particularly sorrowful because his bodily presence would not be with them. These men had been fishermen just 3 years prior to this! They had escaped these things so long as the Master had been with them. But now how would they stand? How would they preach in his name? They were so filled with sorrow that none asked him where he was going. But our Lord gives them a word of assurance. May the Lord fulfill this word as you listen to this sermon.
