Critical Hope Daniel’s three friends were a picture of hope when we would that expected them to be in despair on their knees begging for mercy. Instead, they knew God’s power over the king who declared they would be destroyed in a furnace that was so hot it consumed men who got close to it but not in it. Is your God able to sustain you in crises? What do you do when all your attempts to remedy a critical situation have failed? Is you confidence in God able to keep you from despair, or do you still have hope. Daniel’s friends didn’t know whether God would keep them from being harmed in the furnace but they knew He was able to do so. But the destruction of their bodies did not make them desperate to strike up a deal with the king. They were confident that whatever happened they were in God’s caring hand and would enjoy Him forever in glory. Do you have that confidence? The Lord God is omnipotent and good and obligates Himself to care for those who trust in Him. We urge you to turn to Him in this kind of trust that holds up in the most desperate of times.
