All praise belongs to Jesus. The North Koreans have been grabbing songs of praise and commitment to Communism/Kim Jong-Il, and turning them into messages for God's people. How we love their boldness and creativity. Here are numbers two and three of the series. Remember that these are translated from the original North Korean.
What is Life?
This is a propaganda song asking North Korean young people to offer their lives for the Communist Party and the country. In mid 1990, Kim Jung Il complimented this song, saying that it combines literary and artistic qualities. It is commonly sung by NK people.
What is Life? (original NK version)
If somebody asks what life is,
We will answer like this:
It is the past on which you can look back with a smile
At your last moment.
As the streams gather to form a river,
Each day gathers to make a lifetime.
Who can blame if it is short?
Eternity has nothing in common with time.
If somebody asks what life is,
We will answer like this:
It is the moment that was given to the country
That will never be forgotten with time.
What is life? (new Christian hymn version)
If someone asks what life is,
We will answer like this:
It is the way of following the Lord
Who suffered for our sins.
If someone asks what life is,
We will answer like this:
It is the way of living only for the Lord;
That is what eternal life is for you and me.
If someone asks what life is,
We will answer like this:
It is the way of serving only the Lord,
The One Who gives us faith and hope.
Wait for Me (renamed Song of Faith)
This song was the title song for the movie "Away From the Headquarters" which was to glorify Kim Jung Il's mother Kim Jung Suk. The place mention here, "O San Duk" is the birth place of Kim's mother in the northern part of Ham-Kyoung province.
Wait for Me (Original NK version)
Let's not cry when we depart from each other;
Let's not be sorrowful when we walk on the thorny road.
Wait for me, wait wait for me.
We will meet again when the day of independence comes.
Song of faith (new Christian hymn version)
May the love we share never change;
May it never change though time passes by.
As the flower that follows the sun,
May our love for the One never change.
May the hope we share never change;
May it never change though we walk the thorny path.
Like the sun and moon that lights the dark world,
May we live tomorrow as a beam of light.
May the faith we share never change;
May it never change though the storm is heavy.
Though it may be lonely to walk till the end,
May you and I live eternity in faith.
Amen. Thank you again, North Korean believers! You inspire us so much!
