Seoul USA is the organization that does, among a lot of other things, all the project work for Voice of the Martyrs. Balloons, radio broadcasts, Bibles Unbound, etc. I've been associated with this incredible group for over 6 months now, and am planning a little excursion with them in the summer. Here is the [slightly amended] missionary letter I am sending out to friends, family, and now, blog readers. Please pray with us! Dear friend of North Korea,
I'm writing to you because I believe you have heard the cries of Christ in His Church in North Korea. You may have heard them from me, or other members of the Body. Maybe God Himself has spoken it to your heart.
Perhaps you already pray for the NK situation and just want to do more. I would like to offer our coming trip there, in the summer of this year, as one means of fulfilling that desire.
In June, Lord willing and enabling, a team of Seoul USA short-term missionaries will go into Seoul, Korea to work with NK defectors in the new Underground University. While in the area, we will:
launch a series of balloons carrying Gospel messages to hope-starved North Koreans.
teach at the University in Seoul. This new creation is a unique way of training North Koreans living in South Korea to be redeployed as missionaries wherever North Koreans are found...including back inside North Korea!
gather the stories of north Korean defectors and prepare them for worldwide publication by VOM organizations around the world.
volunteer in the Seoul USA office.
participate in the nearly three dozen projects that Seoul USA oversees.
For two years now I have been involved with the North Korean call. I recently spent several months visiting churches as a representative of VOM, then requested a transfer to the Seoul USA network.
We believe our trip will benefit people not only in Korea, but in your area too. Here's how.
the notes that I take this summer recording my observations at the DMZ, on the streets of Seoul, in defectors' homes, will be recorded and communicated to a host of Westerners, including you. Your new knowledge of the situation there will show you how to pray and act on behalf of your brothers and sisters.
your donations and prayers will fund a balloon launch, enable our volunteer projects, give us the materials we need to put on the computer later. You may even have a personal message you'd like us to deliver for you.
we can tie you in to praying for us during this time so that you are literally a part of the ministry of North Korea. For two years I have prayed and sent others in this same way.
My wife and I are planning a seven-week stay. We will participate in paying part of our own way by forfeiting income that would normally come in during those weeks. For the other monies, nearly $7000.00, we are asking God to speak to those who read this letter to share with us. The figure covers 2 plane tickets to Korea and seven weeks' expenses for two persons.
