Do You Do Counseling?

Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

This title of our Saviour is a blessed one and one which scripture reveals Him in the character of. Revelation 3:18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. Psalms 73:24 Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.

God’s counsel is given in the Gospel of His dear Son. The Lord Jesus Christ is both the Counselor and the Counsel.

More than one person has enquired lately regarding whether I “do counseling” or not. I do every week. Our schedule of services is published on this bulletin. These are my counseling hours. I only am a counselor in the sense that I preach Him Who is the Counselor and Counsel of God, the Lord Jesus Christ.

You may call this a cop out if you like, but it is those who offer advice apart from the Gospel who are copping out and who are dangerous to the souls of men. To any who will not hear the Gospel, I have one piece of advice. Hear the Gospel! If you will not obey this counsel, why would I bother to give you any other, even if there were any?

If you are eagerly and honestly attending the worship services and are seeking, my advice to you is to continue to do so, until God reveals Himself to you in the Person of His gracious, sin-atoning, holy Son.

If you know the Lord Jesus Christ and truly worship Him in Spirit and truth, my advice to you is to never fail to attend His worship and hear His Gospel. If you want to be fed spiritually, taught by the Lord Jesus, edified, built up in the faith of Him, commune with and worship Him alone Who is worthy, you will follow this advice.

See? I am full of advice. It just happens to be the same in every circumstance. Silver and gold have I none. “Pearls of wisdom” have I none, unless you would apply this trite description to the riches of glory Himself. Christ, the Counselor and the Counsel of God is all we have. He is enough. He is all.
