My dear sister, Jean Schutte, was kind enough to write a short review with some personal comments, on my book, "Unending Hope for the Exhausted Addict". Read this testimony and take courage!
"One of the truths in this book, will be the thing that prevents many from reading it.
As the book explains we are deceived about ourselves. When seeing the title "Unending HOPE for the exhausted addict" you are more likely to think of many others who may benefit more from the book than yourself.
This book explains a natural mans deliberate step by step decent into a sinful lifestyle. The way a natural man loves his specific "flavour" of sin, He feels safe and justified in his sin, even as it escalates and ensnares him and even when the consequences leave him broke and without friends and family. In comparison to this sin he loves and justifies, following God feels restrictive and boring. He does not care that God sees him. He does not care that God is just. He does not care that God will judge him.
The book shows that there is HOPE. The Lord can free you from your cycle of sin and remorse. It shows how this remorse and the sorrow associated with sinning against God, is not true repentance. True repentance will transform your life. Sin will no longer be your master! The attractiveness of your beloved sin will fade, you will begin to hate it with passion, and hate those things that you associate with your past. Instead you will see clearly how it was leading you to death and eternal separation from God. True repentance gives you a true love for God, no high you have ever experienced can compare to the joy, strength and peace God will give you.
I can't review this book without adding a personal note. The content of this book is very dear to me personally. Four years ago, the Lord used the preaching of this series on addiction, to convict me and change my life. At that stage I thought I was a believer, I knew Gods word, but had no victory over sin in my life. I was deceived, trapped and hopeless, I had prayed to God countless times in sorrow and ashamed, only to rush straight back into sin without giving a thought to the Almighty God. God saved me and changed my life. God is still working in me and changing me. I still experience failures and sorrow and hardship, but the Lord strengthens me and sustains me, and I have certainty I will spend an eternity with God!
No matter how far you have fallen, there is HOPE in God!"
