The fact that we are bidden to be looking unto Jesus as "the Finisher of faith" also denotes what he does in us as we run this race. We need something more than a perfect Example. Christ has not only gone before the believer as the Author of faith but he also dwells in the heart of the believer through faith and it is by him that we live, run this race and shall finish the race (Gal 2: 20; Ps. 23: 3-6.)

The believer will overcome not by looking to these bodies of sinful flesh, or to the hurdles in the course, or to others in the race? We will finish this race by our Finisher abiding in us and lifting faith's eye above, where our hope enters in through the veil, to the very throne of God... Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec (Hebrews 6: 20.) The Finisher of faith strengthens the believer as he refreshes his promise within our souls saying, to him that overcometh will I grant to sit with Me in My throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with My Father in His throne (Revelation 3:21.) As we move along the course the Finisher causes us to say with the apostle Paul, Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3: 13, 14.) And at last, by the grace and strength of the Finisher of faith, we shall say...I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith (2 Ti 4:7.)
