My friends, let us cast away forever the idea that we can obtain favor with God and acceptance by Him based upon any personal merit, obedience to the law, or observance of any ceremony or ritual. For it is written, Abraham had two sons …(Gal. 4:22). From this example of Scripture, the Apostle shows us clearly that Ishmael, the son of the bondwoman, born after the flesh, could not be heir with Isaac, the son of the freewoman, born of promise. Here too is laid to rest the perverted doctrine of justification by a mixture of grace and works. For, Ishmael was Abraham’s son! Nevertheless what saith the Scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman. Justification and acceptance is in the Lord Jesus Christ and through faith in Him alone! By His grace we are children of promise and born of the freewoman (Gal. 4: 28 & 30
