My dear spiritually starved friends
This is a very personal subject for me. I have so many friends who are tied up in misguided Christian service. They have a Christianity that focuses on something other than the glorious gospel of the blessed God. Their minds are on spiritual warfare and deliverance, and how they can most militantly be involved in the spiritual battle, yet they see the powerful, living, gospel of God as a comparably impotent weapon at their disposal. They are hungry because they do not grasp the true glories of the work God does in the human soul when He saves. They are hungry because they struggle to find a final point of authority for what they believe, never knowing whether their beliefs are true or not. My heart goes out to them because they seem to always struggle with spiritual questions, but at the same time they are defensive and dogmatic about what they believe. They always feel threatened. They never have final confidence and peace. In this message I have preached (026 Spiritual Warfare Defence1) I have begun to speak to this very problem. I desire, with longing in my heart, to see my dear friends, and you, reader, to come to a wonderful, new, solid faith; a faith based on final, unshakeable truth.How have we drifted so far? I ask myself this question when I compare what the 'Spiritual Warfare/Deliverance' supporters are teaching, with what Scripture teaches about spiritual warfare. The divide is growing by the day at a fearful rate. As I have shown in this message, the 'Spiritual Warfare/Deliverance' sector in the church is not only teaching and insisting on error, but that error is gravely wrong. When a 'preacher' pronounces 'sonship and daughtership' on the basis of demons having been cast out, to people whom God clearly condemns in Scripture, it is time for Christians who desire to honour God, to stand up and fearlessly proclaim the truth! This is the first in a series of sermons that will examine the issue of spiritual warfare in Scripture, exposing error by placing it starkly beside the truth. Let us side with the truth and oppose error, in love, for the glory of God in the salvation of ruined souls.
