He slept in a stairwell

Let's continue looking at Mike Kim's Escaping North Korea. If you haven't already bought it by now, and I hope you do, here's a story, used by permission and re-written a little, that will melt you. Melting is not the goal here, but while you're melted down, why not remember North Korea in prayer...

North Korean children are by and large mal-nutritioned. That happens when you don't eat. Mrs. Yoon is a former NK citizen who "still cries when she thinks of a six-year-old boy named Chung-Ho whom she met on the streets in North Korea."

She was making her regular rounds at the food market when she saw a boy sitting on the ground, pounding the floor with his fists, with a desperation that one might expect from an older person who has tried everything to meet his needs and is now giving up on life. He wailed at the top of his lungs, "Why was I born into this world? Why did my mom give birth to me?"

He actually cursed the day he was born. Like old Job.

Mrs. Yoon had pity on Chung-ho. He was quite a sight. As many of these orphan children wandering the land, he wasn't even wearing shoes, but had wrapped his feet with cloth.

She approached him, and he told his sad story. No home. No parents. All alone, living by himself, sleeping every night in a stairwell. Already this day he had been caught trying to steal some food and had been beaten by the store owner.

"I felt terrible for the boy, so I bought him some corn gruel," she said with tears."I cried a lot with him. He was so hungry that he ate the bowl of corn gruel in one gulp. After he finished his meal he got on his knees and bowed to me, touching his head to the floor over and over again, saying, 'Thank you, Auntie. Thank you.' "

Can you see Jesus right behind that boy adding His own thanks? Don't you want to hug that little guy? So does Jesus. Don't you wish he knew about the One standing behind him, the One Who made the worlds? So does Jesus.

Sometimes we think alike, don't we, Jesus and us? So what is keeping us from making it a regular habit?
