Why Did God Choose You?

"Ye have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you" (John 15:16). Are you a believer? Do you look to Christ Jesus the Lord of glory for everlasting salvation? Are you dependent upon His faithfulness not yours, His works not yours, His obedience not yours, His righteousness not yours? If you trust the Son of God, the reason you believe is because the Lord chose you unto salvation before the foundation of the world. Your faith in Christ is evidence of your eternal election. That being said, have you not wondered, "Why did He choose me?" An old hymn writer expressed it this way...

Why was I made to hear Thy voice,
And enter while there’s room;
When thousands made a wretched choice,
And rather starve than come?"

Why would God choose you and me and effectually reveal Christ to us? The only answer to be found is this, He chose us unto salvation according to the good pleasure of His will. When our Lord chose His disciples it is written, "And He goeth up into a mountain, and calleth unto Him whom He would: and they came unto Him" (Mark 3:13). There were multitudes that thronged about Him and yet He only chose twelve men to be His disciples. The only reason which can be given for the choice of some and the by-passing of others is that "He doeth according to His will" (Daniel 4:35). In the days of our Lord’s earthly ministry He prayed to the Father, "I thank Thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because Thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes." It was then that He gave the answer to our question, "even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Thy sight." O my believing brethren, be humbled and give unending praise to the sovereign God of electing grace Who declared, "I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy."
