CHRIST Is Our Sabbath Rest

And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath. (Mark 2:27-28).

The Lord Jesus Christ is the believer’s Sabbath rest. We are not told to observe a day with special regulations to keep us or make us righteous before God. We are told by the Lord Himself to, “come unto me and I will give you rest” (Matt. 11:28). The apostle Paul warned the believers in the church at Galatia about observing days, “Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years. I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain” (Gal. 4:10-11). We look not unto a day for rest but rather unto the Lord of everyday, “this is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it” ( Psalm 118:24). So then, we find engaging rest, enormous refreshing and all of salvation in a person, the Lord Jesus Christ Himself, “This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest (Isa. 28:12). He is the Lord of our Sabbath rest. Let us by almighty grace cease from our works and enter into that rest, “he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest. There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God” (Heb. 4:9-10).
