The Power of God Unto Salvation
Acts 8: 32: The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth: 33: In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth. 34: And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man? 35: Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.

What charity! Philip preached unto him Jesus. The text says that Philip began at the same scripture which implies he moved verse by verse forward. In declaring the righteousness of God in Christ it is imperative not only to know how Christ died, but why. Therefore most likely Philip continued through what we know as the fifty-third chapter of Isaiah. Consider the following as you read Isaiah 53: 7-12:

Verse 7: Philip preached the total depravity of man--Sinners, like you and I, oppressed and afflicted the Prince of Life
Verse 7: Philip declared the perfect outward obedience of Christ--Yet he opened not his mouth...
Verse 8: Philip declared sovereign election--for the transgression of MY people...
Verse 8: Philip declared substitution, the death of Christ in place of God's elect--for the transgression of my people was HE stricken.
Verse 9: Philip declared the perfect inward obedience of Christ--he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
Verse 10: Philip declared that the reason Christ went to the cross was because it pleased the Father to bruise his Son in the place of his people--it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief;
Verse 10: Philip declared that the purpose of God, who delights to show mercy toward his people, was accomplished and is certain by the strength of his own Son--when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see seed, he shall prolong days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.
Verse 11: Philip declared that Christ's death manifest the righteousness of God in being just and the justifier of his people because he, himself, satisfied his divine justice on their behalf--He shall see of the travail of his soul, shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
Verse 12: Philip declared that Christ has been raised from the dead and highly exalted by God the Father as King of heaven and earth because in his person and finished work the Son exalted the holy name of God while making atonement for each and every elect child of God.

Paul said, I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith (Rom 1: 16, 17.) God the Father is pleased to save by the truth of his Son's triumphant victory because when the gospel of Christ is declared then God the Father is exalted as both just and the justifier of each one of his saints. This is the power of God unto salvation with which God saved the Ethiopian Eunuch, and all who believe.

Quote by William Huntington
The sinner will never hunger nor thirst after righteousness till the sentence of death gives him an appetite.

"Let Us Be..."
(James 1: 19, 20.)
Pastor Henry Mahan
"Wherefore my beloved brethren, let every man be SWIFT TO HEAR." Let us seize upon every opportunity to hear the word of our Lord from a faithful preacher.

"Let us be SLOW TO SPEAK," either for or against what is heard without thoroughly weighing and considering it in the light of scripture and the person and work of Christ.

"Let us be SLOW TO WRATH." A passionate, angry spirit is seldom teachable. The wrath of man does not promote nor persuade men of the righteousness of Christ, and a harsh demeanor does not adorn the gospel of the grace of God!

"We live unto the Lord." (Romans 14:8.)
Charles Spurgeon
Would God keep his children out of paradise a single moment longer than was necessary? Why is the army of the living God still on the battlefield when one charge might give them the victory? Why are his children still wandering hither and thither through a maze, when a solitary word from his lips would bring them into the centre of their hopes in heaven? The answer is--they are here that they may "live unto the Lord, "and may bring others to know his love. We remain on earth as sowers to scatter good seed: as ploughmen to break up the fallow ground; as heralds publishing salvation. We are here as the "salt of the earth," to be a blessing to the world. We are here to glorify Christ in our daily life. We are here as workers for him, and as "workers together with him." Let us see that our life answereth its end. Let us live earnest, useful, holy lives, "to the praise of the glory of his grace." Meanwhile we long to be with him, and daily sing--

"My heart is with him on his throne,
And ill can brook delay;
Each moment listening for the voice,
'Rise up, and come away.'"
