ZEBULON BAPTIST CHURCH Weekly Bulletin Sunday, June 22nd, 2008
Sing unto God, ye kingdoms of the earth; O sing praises unto the Lord; Selah: To him that rideth upon the heavens of heavens, which were of old; lo, he doth send out his voice, and that a mighty voice. Ascribe ye strength unto God: his excellency is over Israel, and his strength is in the clouds. O God, thou art terrible out of thy holy places: the God of Israel is he that giveth strength and power unto his people. Blessed be God. Psalm 68:32-35
ONLY ONE WAY OF SALVATION When our God sent the flood, the whole world perished except those happy ones who were found in the ark. Even so, there is only ONE WAY of salvation for all persons living under heaven. There is only one name whereby they can be saved. Would you be saved, rich man? There is no way except that way whereby the poorest pauper is also to be saved. Would you be delivered, O man of intelligence? You must be saved in the same way as the most ignorant! There were not two arks, only one. So there are not two saviors, only one Savior! There was no other means of salvation except the ark; so "there is none other name under heaven, "given among men, whereby we must be saved, except Jesus Christ and Him crucified." Pastor Henry Mahan
WHEN IT PLEASED GOD But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb, and called me by his grace (Gal. 1:15).
It is blessed to behold, that He, who is the God in nature and in providence, is the same also in grace. He, who separates from the womb of nature, did long before separate in the womb of eternity his chosen ones. And He, who appoints the time of their birth in nature, hath marked their time in the new birth of grace. As it was by Christ, so it is by all the members of his mystical body. When the fullness of time was come, God sent forth his Son. Galatians 4:4. And when the fullness of time is come, for the recovery of Christ's members from the Adam-nature of sin; God sends forth the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, whereby we cry Abba Father! So minutely doth the Lord attend to all the concerns of his people! Robert Hawker (1753-1827)
SECURITY IN CHRIST If my security in Christ and my final entrance into glory were dependent in any way on my works, before or after conversion, I would have no security. But, blessed truth, salvation is not in ANY way dependent on my works. Christ is my security and he alone will be the cause of my entrance into glory. There are three things that cause the security of my salvation and final entrance into glory:
1). The sovereignty of God. If He loves me now, it is because He always loved me, nothing in me caused His love. He loved me simply because He would. And if He loves me now, He will never cease to love me. "I am the Lord, I change not, therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed."
2). The blood of Christ. On Calvary's tree, when the sins of God's elect were placed upon Christ, He literally put them away (Heb. 9:26). Because of the blood of Christ, I have no sins to give account of. If Christ paid my debt, it is paid! God's law and justice have been satisfied. The bill collector cannot cast into prison one whose debts have been paid.
3). The righteousness of God is imputed to all the Father loved and the Son shed His precious blood for, and His righteousness demands their salvation. Pastor Todd Nibert
BEHOLD THY KING COMETH Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass. And I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim, and the horse from Jerusalem, and the battle bow shall be cut off: and he shall speak peace unto the heathen: and his dominion shall be from sea even to sea, and from the river even to the ends of the earth. As for thee also, by the blood of thy covenant I have sent forth thy prisoners out of the pit wherein is no water. Zech. 9:9-11
God gave to His prophet the very exact description of our Lord Jesus Christ as He entered into Jerusalem to accomplish our salvation, 550 years before it actually happen (Matt.21:1-11). Zechariah not only describes for us the circumstances how Christ would come but also gives us a very vivid description of Who this is. Notice these things!
1). Jesus Christ is the King of our salvation. "Behold thy King cometh unto thee." The wise men ask, where is He that is born King (Matt. 2:2). Our Lord as God incarnate, is King of Kings (Rev. 19:9-16; Psa.2:6; Acts.2:36). As King He is sovereign in salvation (John 17:2; Rom. 9:12-16).
2). Jesus Christ is the Just God, "He is just." That means He is righteous in all is ways and Holy in His character. Stephen and Peter called Him, "the Just One" (Acts 3:12-15; 7:52).
3). Jesus Christ is the only Saviour, "having salvation." He is not only a Just God but also our merciful Saviour (Isa.45:21). Paul often calls Christ, God our Saviour (Titus 1:3; Luke 2:30). He came to give His life as a ransom to purchase His covenant people (Matt. 20:28; Acts 20:28; Acts 4:12).
4). Jesus Christ is also identified with our humanity, "lowly, and riding upon an ass." Totally, fully God Almighty, yet also a real man (Jn.1:14; 1Tim. 3:16; Phil.2:5-9). As the Godman He honored the law and perfected righteousness for us (Isa. 42:21; 2Cor.5:21; 1Peter 3:18; Heb. 9:12).
5). Jesus Christ is our Peace with God, ‘he shall speak peace unto the heathen." Surely, no one else has the authority to speak peace unto the sinner, but Jesus Christ Himself (Eph.2:12-17; Rom. 5:1). He made peace with God for His people through the blood of His sacrifice (Col. 1:19-22).
6). Jesus Christ is our Deliverer, "by the blood of thy covenant I have sent forth thy prisoners out of the pit wherein is no water" (Rom. 11:26). Our blessed Lord came to set His people free (Luke 4:18). From the curse of the law (Gal. 3:10-13), from the bondage of sin (Rom.6:14), from the terror of death (Rev. 1:18), from the grip of the devil (Heb. 2:14). Pastor Tom Harding
