In Issue 3, May of ‘06, in an article entitled "The Power of Information", some random quotes & paraphrasing:

The North Korean people do not exactly realize how harsh their current situation is since the North Korean government prohibits any information from outside their country. They only know what the government tells them." - Tae San Kim, North Korean defector.

"All citizens are entitled to the freedom of speech, publication, gathering, demonstration, and freedom of association." - Article 27, North Korean Constitution. (Well, most citizens? A majority? A good portion? People in and around Pyongyang? The military, the government.... would you believe, the Leader ?! Article 27 definitely needs some re-working)

The media in North Korea does not function as the eyes and ears of the citizens. Its single purpose is to deliver the propaganda of the regime... the Party defines the press as a "tool for advertising and propagandizing the party's policies and revolutions." It is the "blood vessels of the Worker's Party."

Not only is the media useless to the people, the NK penal code actually includes listening to foreign broadcasts and possessing dissident publications as crimes against the state, punishable by IMPRISONMENT and/or DEATH!
