• Ji Hae born in 1949, South Hangyong Province, North Korea.
• Active part of propaganda ministry. eg, patriotic work songs at factories.
• By 1989, age 40, her faith in the Party begins to waiver.
• Ji Hae sees a NK TV show mocking South Korea's President.
• A song on the show intrigues her. She memorizes it.
• December 25, 1992, she teaches the SK song to 4 women at a party.
• She is reported and arrested. She is beaten and sexually abused.
• Tries to commit suicide by swallowing cement.
• For teaching song and trying to get extra food illegally, sentenced to 3 years.
• Released 1995, but as ex-convict hard to make money.
• Tries peddling food etc, then selling her blood at transfusion centers.
• 1998, escapes to China, caught by trafficker, sold to Chinese man.
• Locked up by new "husband" as a "sex toy," 7 months.
• Escapes to Weihai (China), works in restaurant.
• With 6 other NK's, steals boat, engine breaks down on way to South Korea.
• Later steals another boat, but intercepted, turned over to Chinese border guards.
• Repatriated to North Korea!
• Beaten with broom sticks, forced to kneel hours at a time, and more...
• Once more released, December 25, 1999.
• Once more escapes, crossing the frozen Tumen River by Musan into China.
• Meets SK pastor who assists her and others in escape.
• Escape route: Weihai to Beijing to Kunming in China. (A lot of miles!)
• Caught by Chinese police near Vietnam.
• Released. Walk over mountains into Vietnam. Through SE Asia. To Seoul.

And when asked if she still sings the song that got her into all this trouble, she immediately replies, "Yes! And now without fear."

I don't know if she ever came to the Lord, but I know she had the opportunity. Millions in the North Korea "Paradise" do not.
