ZEBULON BAPTIST CHURCH Weekly Bulletin Sunday, June 8th, 2008
Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered: let them also that hate him flee before him. As smoke is driven away, so drive them away: as wax melteth before the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God. But let the righteous be glad; let them rejoice before God: yea, let them exceedingly rejoice. Sing unto God, sing praises to his name: extol him that rideth upon the heavens by his name JAH, and rejoice before him. Psalm 68:1-4
PASTOR'S NOTE Our summer meeting with Pastor Henry Mahan will be on July 25-27.
"From Such Withdraw Thyself" (I Timothy 6:3-5). The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ produces a humble and loving spirit; but religion without Christ (even though quite orthodox) fills the mind with pride, vanity, and self-esteem. These people often spend their time in controversy, disputes, and strife over words, ordinances, laws, church discipline, and government. Their ministry and contact with others produce quarrels and dissension, insults and suspicion, envy and jealousy. "From such withdraw thyself." The true grace of God holds and proclaims the gospel of His glory in the spirit of our Lord and will bring His people together in righteousness, joy, and peace. Pastor Henry Mahan
ABSOLUTELY SOVEREIGN Psalm 76:10: Surely the wrath of man shall praise thee: the remainder of wrath shalt thou restrain.
If we deny the absolute sovereignty of God we do not deny it because we think it belittles God. Whether we know it or not we do it TO BELITTLE GOD AND EXALT SELF. Though most argue against God's absolute authority and power claiming concern over God being accused of being the author of evil, the true concern is that I'll be found out to be the author of all my sin.
If we confess that God can remove his restraining hand from a man, harden a man's heart, so that the sinner commits evil in a city all to accomplish God's purpose then we have to confess that it is only by God's direct hand and purpose that sinners are not venting more evil than we do now. By nature evil is what we are. The only thing keeping me from committing the vilest act right now is the sovereign power of God.
Yet, all the evil acts that sinners have ever committed on this earth have praised God. One only has to look at the most sinful act of all. At the cross we behold God bringing praise to his name from the unrighteous wrath of man through the death of his own Son. If everything which happened to God's own Son was according to God's determinate council then who are we to question him as to what he does from his throne in glory to us worms called men. Praise him that he has not given us our just due in removing his hand from all of us. Sinful man apart from God's restraining hand is hell.
God's absolute sovereignty is the very definition of who God is. It gives great peace to the sinner who has been made to see him in truth. I am thankful my God is truly God. Pastor Clay Curtis, (Pennington, New Jersey)
GOD SHALL SUPPLY ALL OUR NEED When Paul was sitting in a Roman prison for preaching the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, he lacked the necessities that he needed to maintain his physical strength. The believers at Phillipi found out about Paul's deplorable circumstances and sent relief to him by the hand of their pastor. Having received the gift from them, he wrote back to them saying, "I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, well pleasing to God" (Phil. 4:18). Paul also assured them that the Almighty God would take care of all their need, "My God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus" (Phil. 4:19).
Believer, although we have a great need for all spiritual blessings, to ascend and to stand in God's presence (Pas 24:3), we can fully rest in this and many other precious promises of our Lord Jesus Christ that He will meet all our need. Not according to our puny efforts of religious work, but rather according to His riches in glory by Jesus Christ (Rom.8:32). Although we are poor and needy sinners, yet the Lord thinketh upon us (Psa. 40:17).
We have a great need of pardon and forgiveness from all our sins (Rom. 3:23). The Lord Jesus Christ is ready to abundantly pardon His people from all their sin, because He paid all our indebtedness to God's offended justice and put away our sin by the sacrifice of Himself (Neh. 9:17; Isa. 55:6-7; Jer 50:20; Eph. 1:7; Heb 9:26).
We have a great need of righteousness (Isa. 64:6). Men before and after regeneration and conversion have no ability to perform or produce a righteousness that is well pleasing and acceptable unto God. But thank God, He does not ask us to produce a righteousness, but rather to receive the Lord Jesus Christ by God given faith, Who is the believer's righteousness (Jer. 23:5; Phil. 3:9). Blessed is the man unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works (Rom.4:6).
We have a great need of salvation (Heb.2:3). Our blessed Lord and Saviour came into this world to accomplish salvation for His people (Matt. 1:21). His blood atonement at Calvary was not a payment for some of the sin of all people, nor for all of the sin of all people, but rather a full payment for all of the sin of some people, His elect (Heb.2:17). It is clearly taught throughout the scriptures that the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished eternal salvation for the people God gave Him in the eternal covenant of grace (Isa. 53:8; John 10:15, 19:30; Acts 20:28).
Every spiritual need that we have, our great Supplier and Shepherd is able to abundantly provide for us, freely, fully and forever (Psalm 23; Eph.1:3; 3:20)! Pastor Tom Harding
