Faith Is Don Fortner is pastor of Grace Baptist Church of Danville, Kentucky. Faith is simply the response of the believer's heart to the work of God in you and faith is simply the response of the believer's heart to the work of Chris for you.
True Conviction of Sin Todd Nibert is pastor of Todd's Road Grace Church in Lexington, Kentucky. When we think of conviction of sin, we usually think of strong feeling of guilt or remorse over things we have done. But when the Lord tells us what true conviction of sin is, He says of sin, because they believe not on me. The sin of sins is to not trust Christ for salvation. You have experienced Holy Spirit conviction when you see the wickedness of attempting to come into God's presence any other way than the way of Christ alone.
"I live by the faith of the Son of God," Martin Luther Galatians 2:20: I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless, I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: And the life I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me." "My speech is no longer directed by the flesh, but by the Holy Ghost. My sight is no longer governed by the flesh, but by the Holy Ghost. My hearing is no longer determined by the flesh, but by the Holy Ghost. I cannot teach, write, pray, or give thanks without the instrumentality of the flesh; yet these activities do not proceed from the flesh, but from God...Christ reigns in the heart with His Holy Spirit, who sees, hears, speaks, works, suffers, and does all things in and through us over the protest and the resistance of the flesh."
A BELIEVING HEART Tommy Robbins is pastor of Fairmont Grace Church in Sylacauga, Alabama "For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." Romans 10:10 The heart of man, consequential of his fallen nature does not, cannot, will not, believe God. In man there is no natural faith in Christ. Man's heart is deceitful and desperately wicked. Man is self-centered, self-righteous and self-glorifying. If we do believe the Word of God...If we do have faith in Christ it is because God in sovereign grace and mercy has given us a new heart. Believing with the heart is much more than a mere verbal agreement with and mental accent to Biblical facts as is propagated by false preachers and teachers as they press upon men to accept Jesus as their personal Saviour. A believing heart is one that lives unto God, embracing, loving, seeking, rejoicing in the precious Redeemer of their souls, the Lord Jesus Christ. A believing heart is one that hungers and thirsts after the righteousness of Christ and has a God-given abhorrence of sin and self. A believing heart is one that daily takes up his cross, denying his own righteousness, repenting of his sin and unbelief and follows Christ by faith. All those to whom God has given life and faith in Christ love the gospel. Not just any so-called gospel. They love the truth as revealed in the Lord Jesus Christ. It is utter nonsense to even imagine that any sinner to whom Christ has been revealed by the preaching of the gospel (The preaching of Christ is God's ordained means whereby He calls His elect to faith in Christ) does not love to hear Christ preached and has a desire to be committed to the gospel of their salvation. To profess to be saved and yet have no desire or use for the gospel is a contradiction. The natural man is persistent in his pursuance of the things that satisfies his carnal cravings, even to the extreme. Likewise, the believing heart will not be denied of that One thing which satisfies the longing of his soul ... the Object of his faith ... the Lord Jesus Christ. "One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in His temple." Psalms 27:4.
RIGHT ON TIME My wife and I recently had a friend telephone us well in advance to ask the specific hour we expected her to arrive at our home. My reply was, "Right on time." Knowing the time constraints of her job and the sure prospect of traffic congestion she explained that she might not arrive exactly at the time we expected. I reassured her that whenever she arrived at our home she would be right on time. What I meant is that if it was the Lord's will that my friend did arrive at our home, whether before, at, or after our target time, it would be the right time because it would be in the Lord's time.
We live in a fast-paced world. The believer sometimes loses the peace of knowing that our Lord controls all things. Being late may be my fault because I did not wake up in time. It may be that my children held me back because I did not instruct them an hour earlier so as to give them time to fight off all the same infirmities that years of experience have taught me to fight off more quickly. My job may hold me over so that I had to fulfill the responsibilities that I am entrusted with. Yet, as believers, may we never shift the blame to someone else for our being late but be patient in every circumstance toward one another, at peace, knowing that we are not on the world's time but on the Lord's time.
If it be the Lord's will that we arrive at the predetermined location, whether we arrive early, at the appointed time or late, we are right on time because it is in the Lord's time. The question we should ask ourselves is have we learned to curb our flesh, to make all adjustments necessary to be on time, and to trust that according to our sovereign Lord's omnipotent hand we are arriving, even if after all our faithful attempts we be late, right on time. As believer's, let us receive one another just the same way.
After my wife and I enjoyed the company of our friend, we spoke about her attending the worship service with us. Whether she arrives today or years from today, if it be the Lord's will that she be here, just like she arrived at our home that particular evening, I can receive her with patient readiness knowing that by the sovereign hand of our Lord she will be right on time.
