ZEBULON BAPTIST CHURCH Weekly Bulletin Sunday, May 4th, 2008
O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; to see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary. Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee. Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name. Psalm 63: 1-4
THE DEBT FULLY PAID There is a twofold debt paid by Christ as the Surety of his people. The one is a debt of obedience to the law of God. This he engaged to do, when he said, ‘Lo, I come to do thy will, thy law is within my heart:' and accordingly he was made under the law, and yielded perfect obedience to it, by which his people are made righteous. The other is a debt of punishment, incurred through failure of obedience in them. The curse of the law he has endured, the penalty of it, death; and by paying both these debts, the whole righteousness of the law is fulfilled in his people, considered in him their Head and Surety. John Gill
HEAVENLY ARITHMETIC So teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts to wisdom(Psalm 90.12)
This heavenly arithmetic is seldom considered, even by the wise! But in light of the fact that "the days of our years" are passing away so quickly, wouldn't we be wise to so think of and measure our time that we may apply our hearts to Jesus Christ, who is true wisdom? "For whose findeth Me findeth and shall obtain favor of the Lord." (Proverbs 8.35) Pastor Henry Mahan
DEAD TO THE LAW For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God (Galatians 2:19).
One of the great truths of Paul's word to those who would turn from Christ to Moses, from free Grace in Christ to the works of the law, is that one must be dead to the law before they can live unto God. The Scriptures clearly teach that the law kills, condemns and curses all who are under it. However, let us not miss the truth also stated here, that it is only through the law that one can be dead to the law!
This means that we can only be dead to the law through a full satisfaction to all the law demands both in precept and penalty; a perfect obedience to all the demands of the law for righteousness, and a perfect satisfaction to the law of justice against sin. This full satisfaction to the law we have by the merit and sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ by virtue of our union with Him as our Representative Head. Thus being dead through and to the law, we live unto God by virtue of our union with Him in regeneration and faith. I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live (representation); yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: (regeneration); and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God (the gift of God's grace); Who loved me and gave Himself for me (His merit and sacrifice) (Gal.2:20). This is what Paul speaks of in Romans 3:31. Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the Law. Any preaching contrary to this is an attempt to frustrate the grace of God (Gal. 2:21). Pastor Charles Pennington
CONVERSION f your conversion is an instance of the preacher's power, you need to be converted again; if your salvation is the result of your own power, it is a miserable deception, from which, you may be delivered. Every man who is saved must be operated upon by the mighty God the Holy Spirit: Every jot and tittle of true regeneration is the Spirit's work. As for our strength, it warreth against salvation rather than for it. C. H. Spurgeon
EXHORT ONE ANOTHER Exhort one another daily, while it is called Today; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin (Heb. 3:13).
All those adopted into God's family should cultivate a continual care and concern for each family member. How can we do this? Look at what the scriptures proclaim and be willing to obey God in all things (Jas. 1:22)!

JOHN NEWTON John Newton was one of England's greatest preachers. He is probably best known for his hymn, "Amazing Grace," and for many other songs he wrote. He preached his last sermon on Dec. 21, 1807, at the age of 82. These were some of his last words: "I am a great sinner and Jesus Christ is a great Saviour." Newton was buried beneath his church of St. Mary Woolnoth, and a tablet was placed on the church wall with an inscription he had written himself: "John Newton, clerk, once an infidel and libertine (unrestrained), a servant of slaves in Africa, was by the rich mercy of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ preserved, restored, pardoned, and appointed to preach the faith he had labored to destroy." All of God's elect, like John Newton, never cease to be totally amazed by God's rich grace, abounding toward them through the redeeming blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, "being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus" (Rom. 3:24). God help us never to graduate above the station of a sinner saved by almighty grace (Luke 18:13!
