Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy. I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah. For thou, O God, hast heard my vows: thou hast given me the heritage of those that fear thy name. Psalm 61:1-5
PASTOR'S NOTE Next Sunday we plan to have dinner after the morning service and observance of the Lord's Table. Lord willing, we plan to have our summer meeting with Pastor Henry Mahan, July 25- 27.
THE ORDER OF GOD'S TRUTH How perversely man reverses the order of God's truth. They urge dead sinners to come to Christ, supposing they have the power of will to do so. Whereas Christ has plainly and emphatically stated that 'No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him' (John 6:44). 'Coming to Christ' is the affections of the heart being drawn out towards Him, and how can a person love one he knows not? See John 4:10. Ah, it is the Spirit who must bring Christ to me, reveal Him to me, before I can truly know Him. 'Coming to Christ' is an inward and spiritual act, not an outward and natural one. Truly, 'the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God; neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned' (1 Cor. 2:14). We cannot so much as 'see' Christ until we are born again (John 3:3) A. W. Pink
WHO THEN CAN BE SAVED? The disciples asked, "Who then can be saved?" Our Lord replied, "With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible" (Matt. 19:25-26).
The first real difficulty in conversion is for a person to realize that he is a LOST SINNER. There are plenty of weak people, even sinful people; but only the Holy Spirit can produce a LOST SINNER who will cry, "O God, be merciful to me, THE SINNER."
The second difficulty in conversion is to teach that sinner THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST. He must be taught of God (Jn. 6:44-45) that Christ's blood and righteousness enable God to be just and justify those who BELIEVE. The gospel of free grace and mercy comes to the helpless sinner without any return on his part. Salvation, eternal life, is THE GIFT OF GOD. Even our repentance, faith, works of faith, and labors of love are produced by His presence in us, not by any merit on our part.
The third difficulty in conversion is to bring a believing sinner TO REST all his days in the same love and grace that begat him. "As we have received Christ, we walk and rest in Him." We are chosen, called, and KEPT by His free grace. Pastor Henry Mahan
THE BELIEVER The believer is perfect in Christ, but in himself is a poor, feeble creature, ever liable to fall. Oh, the blessedness of having One who can manage all his affairs for him at the right hand of the Majesty in the Heavens: One who upholds him continually by the right hand of His righteousness: One who will never let him go: One who is able to save to the uttermost: One who is the same yesterday, today and forever: One who will bear him triumphantly through all the difficulties and dangers that surround him and finally, present him faultless before the presence of His Glory with exceeding joy. Blessed forever be the grace that has made such ample provision for all our sins in the Blood of a spotless victim and the intercession of a Divine High Priest. Pastor Scott Richardson
WAITING ON THE LORD I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope.(Ps.130: 5-6).
Waiting on the Lord does not imply idleness on the part of the believer. His people are active in the kingdom of God; zealous of good works (Titus 2: 14); diligent about their Father's business (Luke 2: 49); vigorous in spreading the gospel by whatever means the Lord supplies (Acts 5:41- 42). Our God highly disapproves of idleness; "Woe to them that are at ease in Zion" (Amos 6: 1). However, we do wait on Him for direction, open doors, liberty, wisdom, and for results. Here is the source, strength and the sweetness of our waiting, "In His WORD I do hope." His WORD is always successful (Isaiah 55: 11); His WORD is always true (Psalm 33: 4); His WORD is living (John 1: 14) and powerful (Heb. 4: 12). The apostle Paul declared that he labored hard in preaching the WORD, but he waited on the Lord for the results. Listen to what he said, "I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase" (I Cor. 3:6). Let us be diligent laborers in the kingdom of God, always striving to preach the WORD (Jesus Christ), but let us be just as diligent to wait on the Lord for the results. His blessings are worth waiting for (I Cor. 1:30).
CONSIDER WHAT GOD HAS SAID "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things" (2Tim. 2:7).
No man has in himself an understanding in spiritual things (1Cor. 2:14). If we would have any understanding in the mysteries of the gospel it must be revealed (Matt. 11:25). However, let us never forget that God has been pleased to reveal Himself to us through the Word written (Heb. 1:1-3), and the Word preached (2Cor.4:6; 1Cor.1:21). Therefore, let us carefully consider, meditate, examine, weigh and receive the Word of God and the Lord will give us understanding in all things (1Thes. 2:13). The Holy Scriptures are able to make us wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus (2Tim. 3:15). Listen to the inspired word's of David, "O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day. Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me. I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation (Psalm 119:97-100). It certainly would be true, that the person who refuses to consider, meditate, believe and receive the Word of God shall never have any understanding in the mysteries of the gospel of Christ, nor true repentance toward God, nor genuine faith in the Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 20:21; Rom. 10:17; Jas.1:17).
