COMMON OR PRECIOUS?
Hebrews 10: 28: He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: 29: Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
Under Moses law any who brought a blemished bullock received the same justice as one who worshipped a false god for both are the same offense to God (Deut 17: 1-7.) Yet, it shall be far worse for those who tread under foot the Son of God, who count his blood unholy, and who do despite the Holy Spirit of grace. The word "unholy" is translated from the Greek word "koynos" meaning that which is shared by all or that which is common. God would not receive a blemished bullock because they could be found anywhere, because a spotted goat did not typify the precious, sin-atoning, blood of the Lamb that he himself would provide in his Son.
To count Christ's blood as effectual for all men--for the Jews which he said were of "your father the devil" as well as for those which he refused to pray in John 17--is to deny that his blood accomplished eternal redemption for a predetermined, exact number of sinners--it is to count his blood as being common to all rather than for a covenant people (John 8:44; 17: 9.) Seeking justification or sanctification by obedience to the law or by other religious endeavors rather than by the grace of God in the sin-atoning blood of Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit is to tread God's Son under foot. It is to count his blood as worthless to accomplish redemption as the blood of a goat. It is to do despite the Holy Spirit of grace by counting the Spirit unable to reveal the truth and irresistibly bring sinners from under a lie.
Some in the early church forsook the assembly of the saints, still claiming to believe on Christ, yet including their carnal reasoning and the law. John did not tread the Son of God under foot by counting them his brethren despite the obvious but said, "They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us" (1John 2:19.)
Believers may disagree on things of lesser importance, but every single sinner called of God the Holy Spirit is taught of the Father and therefore all value the blood of our Redeemer as anything but common, his blood is precious. "Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot; Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God" (I Peter 1:18-21.)
