I will sing of thy power; yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning: for thou hast been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble. Unto thee, O my strength, will I sing: for God is my defence, and the God of my mercy. Psalm 59:16-17
What Is Your Hope? Lay the foundation of your hope in Jesus Christ. Begin with Christ and end with Christ. As Christ Jesus becomes more to you, self will grow less and less. If your faith puffs you up - it is not the faith of Christ. God will help us when we are weak. He will bless us as long as we confess our dependence upon His blessing. He will fill us when we are empty. He will feed us when we are hungry. He will be our all when we are nothing. He will forgive us when we are guilty. But the moment we begin to boast in ourselves and feel sufficient, we will be left to learn, in no uncertain terms, that we are naked, poor, blind, and miserable. Terrible will be the day when proud rebels discover, too late, the dust and ashes of human merit. Pastor Henry Mahan
WHAT IS A PREACHER? What is a preacher? - A preacher is a nobody who tells everybody about somebody who can save anybody. Pastor Scott Richardson
We can only see light in God's light Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God" (1 Corinthians 2:12).
What thick clouds of darkness spread themselves at times over our soul; all things out of sight; our signs and tokens buried, as it were, in mist. It is like a sea fog, that comes out of the bosom of the vasty deep, and hides all objects from view. The ships are on the sea, notwithstanding, but this deep fog prevents their being seen. So with our souls at times, all is misty, cloudy, and no signs can be seen of the work of God upon our hearts. And yet we 'know' them, by receiving the Spirit of God, for it is the only way whereby they can be known.
We can only see light in God's light; only believe by God's faith; only love by God's love, therefore, we can only know the things freely given to us of God by the revelation of the Spirit. What we know savingly, experimentally, feelingly, we know only by divine teaching. How dark our mind often is; how low we sink at times; it is only the Son of God that can enable us to rise; only by the revelation of His Spirit can we believe that we are His. We know He is God when He shines forth, as we know the sun when it blazes forth in the summer sky. We know Him by the teaching of the Spirit, but cannot see Him till our eyes are divinely opened.
The sun may shine in all its glory, does that communicate light to the eyes of the blind, or warm the corpse lying in the coffin? The blind see not; the dead hear not; the living, the living alone see and know the Son of God. Joseph C. Philpot
BOW TO CHRIST AND LOOK TO HIM When Pharaoh exalted Joseph to be ruler over Egypt, he made several decrees concerning Joseph, but his instructions to the people were only two. The first was, "Bow the knee" (Gen. 41:43). Next, when the people were in need, he instructed them to "Go unto Joseph; what he saith to you, do" (Gen. 41:55). Those who would preach the gospel of the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ must strictly adhere to both the content and the order of these decrees. We tell men first of the majesty of His Person, His Lordship and sovereignty. Should anyone be in need, we direct them to Him, for He alone can save and that by the power of His word. Pastor Charles Pennington
REGENERATION Regeneration makes no alteration on the flesh, but the spirit. There is nothing in the flesh made holy. And there is nothing in the spirit left unholy. Robert Hawker
THE PERFECT PRIEST WITH THE PERFECT SACRIFICE In Leviticus 21 and 22 the Lord instructed Moses and Aaron with the most vital and fundamental information on how to approach and worship Him. The high priest could not have any defect, deformity or blemish (Lev. 21:16-21). Likewise, the sacrifice could not have any blemish at all (Lev.22: 17-24). If the priest had no defect, yet brought a sacrifice with blemishes it would not be accepted, for it "must be perfect to be accepted" (Lev. 22:21). Likewise, if the sacrifice had no blemish, but the priest that offered it had any blemish, the sacrifice would not be accepted at all, for it "must be perfect to be accepted."
All of this declares the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the perfect and great High Priest without blemish, spot, defect, deformity or sin (Heb. 4:14-15; Heb. 7:26; 8:1). Not only is that true, but He is also the perfect sacrifice. He is the Lamb without blemish or spot (John 1:29; 1Peter.1: 18-20). It is only through the Lord Jesus Christ and His glorious sacrifice, that we can be justified from all sin (Acts 13:38-39; Heb. 9:12). In the Lord Jesus Christ every believer is a priest with no blemish, no sin (Rev. 1:5-6; 5:9-10). Likewise, in Christ's precious blood atonement we can approach the throne of grace with boldness (Heb. 4:16), because we have a perfect sacrifice that fully, eternally satisfies the holy justice of God (Rom. 3:24-26; Col. 1:19-22; Jude 1:24-25). Through Christ, we meet God's standard, "It must be perfect to be accepted," all of this, "To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved" (Eph. 1:6).
