ZEBULON BAPTIST CHURCH Weekly Bulletin Sunday, January 13h, 2008
They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; none of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him: (For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:) That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption. For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others. Psalm 49:6-10
PASTOR'S NOTE We plan to have dinner and observance of the Lord's Table on Sunday, Jan. 27. Also, please fill out your information sheet for the church directory for 2008 and put them on the book table.
TO THE BELIEVER, CHRIST IS LORD When the Lord told His disciples, "One of you shall betray me," they all replied, "Lord, is it I?" We should have such distrust of ourselves that we would have the same reply. But one of His disciples answered differently, "Master (Rabbi) is it I?" This is the same disciple who betrayed Christ with a kiss saying, "Hail, Master." Not one time do we read where Judas Iscariot ever called Christ "Lord." Master is a term of respect for a teacher. But the fact that Judas never called Him Lord reveals what he was in His wicked heart. To the believer, Christ is Lord. We recognize His Lordship over all things, and we recognize and love His lordship over us. Barnard used to say, "Don't tell me who your savior is, tell me who your Lord is. Then I will know who you savior is." Pastor Todd Nibert
THIS SINNER'S PLEA 1. I plead my need! as the Canaanite, Bartimaeus, the thief, and all who came to Him then. 2. I plead His lovingkindness and tender mercies! He delights to show mercy and is plenteous in mercy. 3. I plead His right to show mercy to whom He will! The leper cried, "Lord, if you will, you can make me whole." 4. I plead His power over all my enemies! He has all authority in heaven and earth. 5. I plead His efficacious blood! "The blood of Jesus Christ, God's Son, cleanses us from all sin." 6. I plead His command to repent and believe! He does not merely invite sinners to repent and believe the gospel, He commands us to come. 7. I plead compliance to His command! "Lord, I do believe, help thou mine unbelief." "He that believeth on the Son, hath life." I believe; therefore, I have life. 8. I plead rest only in His person and work! "Lord, we believe and are sure that Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God." Pastor Henry Mahan
THE BELIEVER'S OBJECT THE believer's object is Christ. "For to me to live is Christ." Paul had but one object, "Whether we live, we live unto the Lord, and whether we die we die unto the Lord." It is a man's object (that to which his affections, thoughts, and feelings are directed), not his position, that gives character, peace, confidence, and standing. Many people, (preachers included) clamor for recognition, praise, and position: and that is natural for one who does not have anything better. But the believer is, "Content with beholding His face, my all to His pleasure resign; no changes of season or place would make any change in my mind. While blest with a sense of His love, a palace a toy would appear, and prisons would palaces prove if Christ would dwell with me there." Pastor Scott Richardson
First Things First But seek ye FIRST the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." ( Matthew 6:33).
If Christ is first and foremost to you, your life (not merely a part of it), then He gets the preeminence in all things. The worship of Christ comes first , before anything or anyone else. We order our lives around the worship of our Lord. It is not 'if I have the time', but rather we make the time and plan the time to worship. The support of the Gospel of Christ comes first. "On the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him" (I Cor.16:1-2). Before we pay any other bills, we give (return) the Firstfruits to the Lord. The Gospel is our true food, clothing and shelter. I can do with a lot less of this other stuff but not the gospel! Seeking the Lord comes first. First thing in the morning, before we see any another face, seek the Lord's face, presence, guidance, direction and grace. For without Him we can do nothing (but sin). Before our first steps, ask the Lord to direct them. Since Christ is truly the one thing needful; the first and last, our all in all; then FIRST THINGS FIRST!
"Your Heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things (food, drink, clothing). But seek ye FIRST the Kingdom of God and His righteousness; and ALL these things shall be added unto you." Pastor Paul Mahan
THE LORD GAVE AND THE LORD HATH TAKEN AWAY When God had sent Job sever trials he fell down upon the ground and worshipped (Job 1:21). In his worship he magnified his Lord as the absolute sovereign in all things (Rom. 11:36). Some people would only recognize that the Lord gives, which He abundantly does (Psa. 40:5; John 3:16). However, the believer rejoices that the Lord gives and that the Lord does take away. The Lord Jesus Christ does abundantly give His people all things in salvation, "He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?" (Romans 8:32; 1Cor. 2:12). The believer can also rejoice that the Lord does also take away, He has taken away all our sin, "Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world" (John 1:29). "But now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself" (Heb. 9:26). Believers like Job, bow before the Lord and worship Him. We do rejoice that our great God does all things well, as David said, "As for God, His way is perfect" (2Sam. 22:31). Pastor Tom Harding
