MEDITATIONS IN THE PSALMS (7-28-24) [An outline of the Psalm A good devotional study when using the scriptures indicated] Psalm 34:4-6, Part 2 Why donât we pray? We have all to gain and nothing to loose! We have all the encouragement to do so. âI sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. They looked to Him (they flowed unto Him, Heb.4:16) and were radiant, and their faces were not ashamed. This poor man cried out, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.â Our Father is concerned for âwhatever we cry out forâ; âFor who is there that has God so near as the Lord our God is to us, for whatever reason we may call upon Himâ (Deut.4:7). (Ps.32:6; 50:15; 56:9; 145:18-19: Jer.29:11-12; 33:3: Luke 9:10). The cause of the vows and challenges in vs.1-3 brings David to seek: âI sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from my fears.â He sought the Lord by prayer and in faith âHe that cometh to God must believe that He isâ (Heb.11:6). How is it that a man comes to seek the Lord? âFor thus says the Lord God: âIndeed I Myself will search for My sheep and seek them out, as a shepherd seeks out his flock on the day he is among his scattered sheepâŚâ Ezek.34:11-13 (Isa.62:12; 65:1). David states next that his deliverance was not peculiar to himself but common to all those that humbly and sincerely seek the Lord. âThey looked unto Him and were lightened (cheered by His light or pleasure in receiving them) and their faces were not ashamedâ (or left to shame or disappointment) âFor whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angelsâ Mark.8:38. (Rom.9:33; 10:9-11). âThis poor man cried out, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.â The word translated poor is rendered âhumbleâ Ps.9:12; âafflictedâ Ps.18:24; âlowlyâ Pro.3:34; âneedyâ Pro.31:20. Those that seek the Lord and find deliverance are âpoor, humble, afflicted lowly, needy ones.â âFor the needy shall not always be forgotten; the expectation of the poor shall not perish foreverâ Ps. 9:18; âFor the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now I will arise,â says the Lord; âI will set him in the safety for which he yearnsâ Ps.12:5. The mere oppression and sighing of a saint ever how silent he or she bears it is a cry in itself to their God. Moses was heard and answered at the Red Sea though he said nothing. We have a High Priest, Jesus Christ, who can be touched with the mere feeling of our infirmities. âLet all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; let such as love Your salvation say continually, the Lord be magnified! But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinks upon me. You are my help and my deliverer; do not delay, O my Godâ Ps.40:16-17. (Ps.72:1-14; 86:1). âBlessed are the poor in spirit (before God) for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.â Do you want Godâs ear and heart? Confess your poverty. âThe LORD will destroy the house of the proud, but He will establish the border of the widow.â ~~Terry Worthan, 1938-2022
