Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness. Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King. God is known in her palaces for a refuge. Psalm 48:1-3
TRUE FAITH True faith is built upon the strongest evidence possible--the WORD OF GOD! True faith is a total dependence upon the LORD JESUS CHRIST for all our needs; such as forgiveness, sanctification, peace, and eternal life. The believer renounces all confidence in his flesh, rejoices only in Christ Jesus, and worships God in spirit. He feeds upon Christ as the Bread of Life, embraces Christ as his wedding garment, derives all strength and comfort from Christ, and trusts himself to the care of Christ as his shepherd, teacher, priest, and king. This is the life of faith. Pastor Henry Mahan
James 2:1: My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons. The Spirit of God reminds us, as brethren, against elevating one person while neglecting another. Sinful men glorify or reject one another based on race, gender, class, religious-practice and other things. Fact is, in ourselves and apart from the Lord Jesus Christ, we are all one, putrid, mass of filth before the thrice-holy God. By God's grace, we believe that God did not choose any of his elect based on anything in us, good or bad. Why then would we show favor to one and reject another based on anything produced by men? God would have his one race glory in no other but the Lord of glory, the Lord Jesus Christ. Why then would we glory in man by choosing one above another? The glory of the Lord so far excels all, that when we behold him by faith, every imaginary difference between Jew and Gentile, male and female, rich and poor, the one who thinks he keeps the law and the one who knows nothing of God's law vanishes. Believers are complete in him, no sin, no schisms, and no differences. The only true distinguishing characteristic that exists between sinners in this world is that some refuse to bow to the Lord Jesus Christ while others have been irresistibly made to glory only in the one who has made them the very righteousness of God. Knowing therefore, who it is that makes one sinner to differ from another, let us glorify him, our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory. Pastor Clay Curtis
A NEW YEAR'S PROMISE "He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee" (Hebrews 13:5).
The experience of our lives verifies this sweet promise. Does it not? Looking back over the past, we see that all of our fears have been foolish. Look at all that you have been through individually. Did the Lord ever forsake you? Recall all that we have been through collectively, as the church of Christ. Did our God ever once fail us? Were we ever forsaken? No, not one time has his promise failed.
Let us, therefore, look the future square in the eye and, "boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear." Let us not fear any providence, for it is the work of God. Let us not fear any man, for men are but the instruments of God. Let us not fear the demons of hell, for they are the creatures of God. God is with us; and he is faithful to his promise. He will never leave us, nor forsake us. Pastor Don Fortner
PAST PERFORMANCE AND FUTURE RESULTS I recently read a statement in a magazine about the investment strategy of a successful financial company. They talked all about their past successful performance to encourage investors to trust them with their money. But then they put this disclaimer, "our past performance is no certain guarantee of our future results." How willing are people to risk all their capital on the flimsy and feeble promises of men. But they think very little of what is at stake in the welfare of their eternal state before almighty God.
However, the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ is not a risk (Rom. 4:20-21). We can safely invest all our salvation to the Saviour, Who cannot fail (Isa. 42:4) and is always successful (Rev. 1:18; 1 Cor. 15:57). The past performance of the Lord Jesus Christ in all His mediatoral office; as Prophet to reveal (Deut. 18:18), Priest to redeem (Heb. 2:17, 9:11-12) and King to reign (Matt. 28:18) is the certain and sure guarantee of the future results to all the heirs of grace (Rom. 8:32; Heb 9:15). The covenant of grace, in Christ is ordered in all things and is sure (2 Sam. 23:5; Rom. 4:16; 2 Cor. 1:20; Heb. 13:20). We can never go wrong and always invest wisely, trusting the Lord Jesus Christ with all our salvation (1 John 5:11-12; Acts 4:12).
WHO CAN CHARGE US? Here is what every believer knows from the testimony of scripture and from the experience and conviction of his own heart (John 16:8-11). We know, recognize and confess the problem and plague of our own heart, is sin (Rom. 3:9-12; 5:12). But thank God, we also know the solution for sin, Christ and Him crucified (1Cor. 2:2), Christ our propitiation for sin (Rom. 3:25). Christ Jesus crucified (Rom. 4:25), the Substitute (2Cor.5:21), Surety (Heb.7:22), Satisfaction (1John 4:10) and Saviour (Matt. 1:21) is our only answer to every just charge against us, "Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us." (Rom. 8:33-34).
