MEDITATIONS IN THE PSALMS [An outline of the Psalm, A good devotional study when using the scriptures indicated] Psalm 27:4-6 As we take up these verses the lessons are Single Mindedness; Resolution; The Value on Communion; The Beauty of His Presence; and The Security of the Believer in His Presence. V4, âOne thing.â Ja.1:8, âA double minded man is unstable in all his ways.â This is not saying that David had no other interest; but that he had âOne thingâ most important. He had his priorities in proper order; his eye was single toward God, Matt.6:22-24. It wasnât the kingdom that David desired though it was his by right; it was the House of God, the place of public worship which is the pledge of the eternal house and worship of God. In his flight from Saul he was deprived of the benefit of the Sabbath and weekly sacrifices. David teaches us a very important lesson, what we cannot at once attain, it is well to desire. God judges us much by the desires of our hearts. I believe God takes the will for the deed. âThat will I seek after.â Holy desires will lead to resolute action. The man that pursues what he desires usually gets it Matt. 13:45-46; Matt.7:7. A person will never be saved until he seeks with the whole heart Jer.29:13. âThat I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life.â So far from being wearied with Tabernacle Services, David longed continually to be engaged in them as his life long pleasure. He was a home-born child and desired to be at one with the family of God and at rest under the shadow of the Father. But David communed with God while in exile! Yes, but it wasnât like the communion of the assembly of Godâs chosen people. When we gather with the children in union with the Spirit and the Word is opened to our inner being its different from the best private devotion. Itâs just a better taste of heaven. âTo behold the beauty of the LORD.â What do you come to church for? I trust not to see or to be seen, or merely to hear a sermon. I hope it is to see and learn âthe beauty of the LORD.â To see more of the beauty of His love, mercy, and grace to you, to learn more of His wonderful perfections, to admire the beauty of His attributes. Now we behold it by faith, then by glorified sight. âFor in the time of trouble, He shall hide me âŚâ In the days of the kings the royal pavilion was erected in the center of the army, and around it all the mighty men kept guard at all times. Like the royal guard in Great Brittan, there was never a time when the post was vacant. Applied to the âPavilionâ of our Great King we are in the midst of the camp under the very shadow of the Almighty with the mighty host of heaven keeping perpetual century! Night and day they are at guard over His people. âIn the secret of His tabernacle shall He hide me.â No one of old dared to enter the most Holy place. It was at the peril of life to do so, if the LORD has hidden His people in the heavenly Tabernacle which is Jesus, what foe can touch them? âHe shall set me upon a rock.â How blessed is the standing of the man whom God has set above his enemies, and in Christ Jesus that is precisely where you are. ~~Terry Worthan, 1938-2022
