MEDITATIONS IN THE PSALMS [An outline of the Psalm, A good devotional study when using the scriptures indicated] Psalm 25: 12-15, Part 3 My Eyes Are Ever Toward the Lord
We continue in Psalm 25 and come to the second group of verses from Davidâs meditation (verses 12-15), a precious reading, and a precious meditation for you and me. He had just cried out in verse 11 requesting forgiveness for his iniquity, feeling the enormous burden of his sin; now he pauses with inquiry in verse 12, âWho is the man who reverently fears and worships the Lord?â A provoking question, one that we all must ponder. It is good that we are provoked to self-examination; a ministry that does not provoke introspection is a most damning ministry. 2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves; 2 Peter 1:10 make your call and election sure; 1 Timothy 4:16 Take heed to yourself. Are you of the Royal Seed or NO? If so âHim shall He teach in the way He shall choose. Those whose hearts are right shall not want for heavenly direction. When the heart is sanctified, the head is enlightened. Observe who chooses the way, âHEâ. We all would choose our way, but what blessings when âHEâ overrules our freewill and makes it His goodwill. If we make our way Godâs way, God will let us have our way. Verse 13, Blessed Consolation! The man that fears God has nothing else to fear, Matthew 10:16-31 âDo not fear.â âHe shall dwell at ease.â It isnât abundance, but contentment that blesses our hearts with peace. âHis seed shall inherit the land.â What land? The glory land! God remembered Isaac for Abrahamâs sake, and He remembers Jacob for Isaacâs sake. âBut what of Esau?â But what of Jacob? Wasnât it a mercy that He saved Jacob? âGood menâs sons have a godly portion to begin the world with, but many of them, alas! turn a Fatherâs blessing into a curse.â The promise holds true only in the spiritual context, our spiritual seed do inherit the spiritual Canaan. Verse 14 some translate âsecretâ to friendship, âthe secret of the sweet, satisfying companionship;â it signifies familiar, confidential, intimate, and select fellowship. John 4:31-32 I have food to eat which you know not of; I Corinthians 2:6-16 âBut we have the mind of Christ.â It is beyond carnal reason and ability; neither natural wisdom nor strength can force a door into this inner chamber. âAnd He will show them His covenantâ, its antiquity, security, righteousness, fullness, graciousness, mercy and excellence; âAmazing Grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me.â Phil. 3, âFinally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord âŚâ Verse 15, for blessed direction, âMy eyes are ever toward the Lord,â David is fixed in his trust, looking in confidence, and waiting in hope. ~~Terry Worthan, 1938-2022
